TYR Special Ops 2.0: Goggle Review

The TYR Special Ops 2.0 goggles are a work of fine craftsmanship, but you will pay for it. If you’re looking for a well-made goggle that isn’t going to leak and the fit works for you, give these a try. I’ll be using these in the open water, for the sun protection they provide and the tight seal around the eyes—a leak in open water is not fun.
What I love: The only way to get these goggles to leak would be to wedge a crowbar between them and your eye socket.
What I could do without: I had issues with comfort, both with the strap and with the gaskets in my eyes.
Ratings
Seal: 5/5
These are the most leakproof goggles I have ever worn. If you like a tight seal around your eyes, you’ll love these.
Clarity: 3/5
I was surprised when I first wore these at how clearly I could see in the water. They provide excellent clarity and a wide field of vision. However, even new, they tend to fog up pretty easily, especially if they get a little water in them.
Comfort: 2/5
These might work for some, but I find them pretty uncomfortable. The strap feels like it is cutting into my ears. If I push it up a little, it’s fine, but then the goggles sit in my eye sockets at a bad angle and start hurting my eyes. I’d expect better comfort for such an expensive pair of goggles. This may not be a problem for everyone, but if they don’t work, there aren’t any options for adjusting them other than tightening or loosening the strap.
Durability: 5/5
As I mentioned earlier, the construction of these goggles is second to none. They exude quality as you hold them in your hand.
Features: 3/5
They come in a polarized, transition, junior, and femme (women’s) styles. The transition model darkens as you go in the sun—though some say this feature does not work well and I have not tested it myself. There is a wide array of colors to suit your preferences.
Cost: 2/5
You’ll be paying nearly $30, which makes them a lot more expensive than comparable goggles but still not quite into the high-end competition goggle territory.
Overall: 3.8/5
If the fit works for you and you aren’t concerned with the high price point, these goggles will do a great job at keeping the water out of your eyes and should last for a while.
